Immediate Care Options
Consulting nurse lines are normally found on the back of your insurance card. They are staffed 24-7 and give you some immediate advice about whether you need to go to the ER, urgent care, or make an appointment with your doctor.
Dispatch Health contracts with most major health insurance companies. You can go to their website and request an in-home visit that is billed like an urgent care visit. If they have time slots available that day you may even be able to get a same day visit. They can diagnose and treat things like viral infections (including Covid). strep, mono, vomiting, head injuries, minor fractures, and constipation.
Urgent clinics can provide immediate care for certain types of concerns, including flu, strep throat, sprains, stitches, sinus infections, etc. Their hours may be variable (mostly after hours and weekends) so inquire when you call. Some may provide online appointment scheduling. See below for our favorite urgent clinics in our area.
Emergency rooms are available at all major hospitals and provide 24 hour care for anything significantly urgent or live threatening. When possible choose a Children’s Hospital ER for pediatric care.
